New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sonali Phogat passed away on Monday night in Goa at the age of 42.
Reportedly, she had gone to Goa with some of her employees. She was immediately rushed to a hospital after she felt uneasiness.
Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar expressed grief and said, "Deeply saddened to learn about the death of Sonali Phogat."
As a BJP candidate, Phogat contested the 2019 Haryana election from Adampur. However, she lost to Kuldeep Bishnoi, who was the Congress candidate.
Meanwhile, the villagers of Bhuthan Kalan, the native village of Haryana BJP leader Sonali Phogat, are not accepting her sudden demise as a normal event. According to villagers, Phogat did not die of a heart attack but she was murdered.
The villagers further demanded the state government conduct a CBI inquiry into the matter so that the exact reason for her death could be ascertained.
Bhuthan Kalan in the Fatehabad district of Haryana is the ancestral village of Sonali Phogat. She was born into a farmer's family and got her early education here. After completing school here, she pursued her degree from MDU University.
Before coming to politics, Phogat was an actress and an anchor. She started her career with anchoring in Hisar Doordarshan in the year 2006. Two years later, in 2008, he joined BJP and since then she was an active member of the party.
She had also been a part of Punjabi and Haryanvi films and music videos.
Sonali Phogat made her debut in Haryanvi films in the year 2019 with the film 'Choriyan Choron Se Kum Nahi Hoti'. Besides this, she was a popular Tik-Tok star.
